Q: What is COM? A: This is a term used in the design trade which means "customer's own material". If you or your design professional prefer to make the fabric choices, you can reach me by email at melanie@littlebigchair.com or call me (512-326-3877 Mon-Fri 8:30am - 5:30pm CST) for yardage and trim requirements. COM orders are not returnable, but every effort is made to create a product worthy of the Little Big Chair name. The pride and pleasure we take in this creative adventure shines through in everything we do. I'm happy to accomodate your design ideas to create the perfect child's chair or ottoman for your home.
Q: What if I like one chair style, but like the fabric on another? A: Email me at melanie@littlebigchair.com and I'll see if the other fabric is still available. I can mix and match fabrics, leathers, trims, decorative nails, and welt cording at your whim. Prefer a cushion without welt? No problem. Want a ruffled skirt? Easy! This is a custom upholstery service.
Q: What elements of the chairs can be customized? A: Possible elements are: the height or width of the seating space, Pirelli rubber webbing or eight-way-tied coil springs, a very soft or firmer seat cushion, matching down pillows, matching ottomans, curves added to the frame at the front edge to create unique shaping, pleated skirts, ruffled skirts, dressmaker skirts (that fall from the top of the deck and directly under the outside arm and outside back), a "tight" seat with no loose cushion or a cushion that appears to be loose but is attached, various colors of the stain on the legs,....... The list goes on. Send me photos or drawings of what you'd like and I'll get back to you.
This is custom upholstery and variations in styling, while respecting the structure of the frame, are encouraged. For instance, there are several ways to design the finishing touches on the front of the arm. I've tried to present numerous options on the Shop For Chairs pages, but many more exist and you're encouraged to use your imagination. Share your design ideas or favorite furniture elements and I'll let you know if I can incorporate them.
Q: How sturdy are the frames? A: Go to The Frames and see one. I have looked at hundreds (actually somewhere between two and three thousand) different frames in 28 years of re-upholstery and have tried to use all that information to engineer the most elegant and durable frame I can imagine. I'm constantly looking for ways to strengthen the entire frame. Since my frames go in public places like libraries, I strive for a product that will endure. No furniture is indestructible, but I would rather overdo the frame construction than suffer the consequences of a poorly thought out, cheaply constructed one that doesn't hold up over time. IMPORTANT NOTICE! These are children's chairs! Persons with "bottoms" wider than the space between the arms can accommodate, should be considerate and find other seating.
As you can see in the picture below, these two little guys.....uh...I mean....one little guy and his great big daddy, are having no problem with the armless chairs in this public library. Despite this adorable image, Little Big Chairs are designed for children and little people, not average size adults. Reports from customers who have chairs in public spaces tell us that, indeed, adults frequently sit in our chairs and are drawn to them just like "little" children. Adults thin enough to fit the chairs will most likely not be too heavy for them. The chairs should always be "set" on the floor and NEVER dropped onto a hard surface, as this might damage the legs.
Q: What is your return policy? A: COM orders are only returnable if damaged in shipping. I make sure that the product is as perfect as I can make it before it is packaged for shipping. If damage occurs, I will work with you to make any necessary repairs. I insure all shipments.
If you purchase a pre-made Little Big Chair from the "Shopping" pages and for some reason it doesn't please you, it can be returned within 10 days. You should insure it and return it in the same pristine condition and packaging in which it was received. After I receive it in good condition, I will credit your account.
Q: Do you have a guarantee? A: Furniture is not indestructible. I work very hard to build a high quality product which can stand up to normal public and private use. Use of these chairs by persons who are too heavy can result in damage and should be avoided. Picking up the chairs and dropping them onto a hard surface, instead of lowering them and setting them down, could cause damage to the legs. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that responsible use will occur. If during normal use something happens to a chair, please contact me. I want happy customers! Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee the chairs due to use or misuse over which I have no control or supervision.
Q: How durable are the fabrics? A: When you click on any chair on the shopping page, you'll find a brief description of the fabric on that particular chair. I try to be as accurate as possible. I want to find compatible homes for my chairs. I'll tell you honestly how I feel about each fabric. Some customers need super durable fabrics for roughhouse wear. Other customers are delicate little princesses who can easily live with a more refined fabric and some are adults with sophisticated tastes. I try to meet a wide range of needs, but always look for very high quality and beauty. I've provided a link to ULTRASUEDE (R) where you can read about this amazing product.
Q: Why do the prices vary so much from chair to chair? A: Different elements take different amounts of labor and materials. I do not skimp on anything when it comes to materials for the frame or quality of the fabrics. Different fabrics cost more than others. Added trims are an expense that brings a unique quality to each piece and also increases the final price. For example, the same exact chair, in frame style and decorative elements, could vary wildly in price when upholstered in a simple cotton or a buttery leather. The price will always reflect the costs of the labor and materials.
Q: How secure is your payment process? A: Little big Chair uses Chase Paymentech as our payment processor. Paymentech is the largest processor of credit cards in the world, using the most up to date technologies and industry standard SSL with 128-bit encryption.. Your information is secure and protected when you make an online purchase. Your security and confidence are vital to us.
Q: What is your privacy policy? A: Little Big Chair takes your privacy very seriously. We use the information you provide about yourself when placing an order to complete that order and to communicate with you about your order, such as confirming shipment, contacting you if there are problems, or following up to insure customer satisfaction. We do not share or sell this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to complete the order.
Q: Is sustainability important to the production of Little Big Chairs? A: The very core of Little Big Chair's philosophy is sustainability. Thoughtful design and production create a product that, with responsible use, will last for generations instead of ending up in landfills after one generation, like so many mass produced items. Our frames are the same as any well made "big chair" and can be re-upholstered when the current fabric is worn. We use Millstead wood, certified by FSC, the Forest Stewardship Council, an independent organization based in Bonn, Germany and committed to protecting the environment and sustainable forestry. We top off our chairs with the finest high density foam which because of it's manufacturing process creates a better quality product while producing fewer emissions during it's processing. Unfortunately these steps increase costs, but as members of the human family, we feel concern for the well being of our world makes it a necessary investment.
Q: What if I purchase a fabric swatch and by the time it arives the chair is already sold? A: If you purchase a fabric swatch and that particular chair sells before the swatch arrives, please accept our apology. Unfortunately, because the cost and labor of sending swatches is greater than the price, we cannot refund the charge. Fortunately, we are happy to adjust the price of any other chair you purchase by the amount you've spent on swatches. (Example: If you purchase 3 swatches, spending $9.36, that amount will be deducted from your chairs total price after your purchase is completed.)
